ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) -- An Elizabethtown man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot out the back window of a moving car last night.
Police say it happened just after 7 p.m. on Dunham Street. Officers say they caught Eric Christopher Bennett, 26, running from the scene. They also found a handgun nearby that had been reported stolen from the Clarkton area.
Investigators say there were two people in the car that was shot at, including the same person leaving Bo's Food Store Feb. 9 when shots were fired there. No one was hurt in last night's shooting.
Bennett is charged with two counts of felony attempted first degree murder, felony possession of firearm by a convicted felon, felony possess of a stolen firearm, felony shooting into an occupied vehicle, go armed to the terror of people, discharging a firearm in town limits and resisting arrest. He is in the Bladen County Jail under $703,000 secured bond.
The Department of Corrections website shows Bennett spent nearly five years in prison for a 2006 robbery conviction.
